Pin Parvati Pass is one of the classic long-distance crossings of the Himachal Himalaya, linking the lush, monsoon-fed Parvati Valley to the stark high-desert of Spiti’s Pin Valley over 5,319m of glacier and moraine. It’s a significantly more serious undertaking than the region’s shorter crossovers like Hampta Pass — eleven days, sustained time above 4,500m, and a genuine glacier crossing that calls for roped travel and a properly equipped, experienced guide team.
The route builds gradually from Kheerganga’s familiar hot springs deeper into increasingly wild valley, past Mantalai Lake — the glacial source of the Parvati river — before the multi-stage push over the pass itself. The descent into Pin Valley National Park, habitat for snow leopard and ibex, offers a stark contrast to the green Parvati side and a preview of Spiti’s high-altitude desert landscape.
This is not a trek for a first Himalayan outing. It demands solid trekking fitness, prior high-altitude experience, and a trek operator equipped for glacier travel — but for those ready for it, it’s considered one of the most complete high-altitude journeys available in Himachal Pradesh.
