Corbett’s Gap is the Knuckles Range at its most accessible — a short, well-marked ridge walk that delivers much of the range’s signature scenery without the permit, guide, and overnight commitment the full Knuckles Peak trek requires. For trekkers based in Kandy with only half a day to spare, it’s the region’s most efficient introduction.

The walk follows the ridge from Riverston out to the Corbett’s Gap viewpoint, passing along the way a smaller escarpment locally nicknamed the “mini World’s End” for its own sheer drop and long-range views, albeit on a smaller scale than the more famous version at Horton Plains. The route stays within cloud forest and open ridge sections for its entire length, giving a genuine sense of the range’s character in a fraction of the time.

Because the trail is short, well-marked, and doesn’t require the mandatory guide needed for Knuckles Peak itself, this is the easiest way to sample the range’s cloud-forest scenery, and works well paired with a Kandy-based itinerary rather than requiring a dedicated overnight trip. January through April gives the clearest ridge views.

Highlights

  • Panoramic views across the Knuckles Range's folded ridgeline
  • A relatively short, easy introduction to the Knuckles' cloud-forest scenery
  • The Riverston 'mini World's End' viewpoint along the route
  • A good half-day option for trekkers based in Kandy
